Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Exams
The following rules apply for the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools in exams under the Study Board for Computer Science.
This concerns all AI based tools, including but not limited to ChatGPT & GitHub co-pilot.
Generally:
AAU allows the use of generative AI like other aids at exams, unless otherwise specified in the module description/study regulations.
The decision takes effect from the ordinary exams in the winter exam period 2024/25.
Courses:
- It is not permitted to use AI tools to generate answers during the course exam.
- Use of generative AI at course exams is allowed if all aids are permitted.
- If no aids are allowed, generative AI is also not allowed.
- If there is a specific list of permitted aids, generative AI must be mentioned to be allowed.
- You can find the permitted aids in the study regulation’s module descriptions and in the semester description in Moodle.
Projects:
- The use of AI tools is allowed as part of the project work.
- Which tools and how they were used needs to be described clearly in the project report. In general, the same rules as for citations apply.
- It is not permitted to use AI tools to generate answers during the oral project exam itself.
